Stuck in a business-travel workout rut? Hey, it happens to the best of us (even those who love working out!) What do you do when your favorite DVD for your after-meeting workout becomes stale, or your usual jog around Central Park during your monthly business trip to New York City is a total yawn? You mix it up! And we have five ways for you to turn that travel-workout frown upside down!
1. Try something new. This is pretty obvious advice, but it’s essential to busting a rut. And by “new” I don’t just mean doing side lunges instead of walking lunges. I mean breaking out of your comfort zone! Do some research and find an exercise class that the area you’re traveling to is known for. For example, in New York, you could take a cardio ballet or Zumba water class. In Los Angeles, find a funky dance class you’ve never visited. Traveling to an area that isn’t known for its fitness trends? No worries. Ask a local (one who looks fit, of course) what they would suggest as the best workout in town. There’s no telling what fun activities you’ll try. (You may even forget you’re working out!)
2. Change your thinking. If your workout is just another to-do on your long business-travel list, then it’s no wonder you’re dreading it. Instead of looking at it as another task to complete, change your thinking to see your workout as “me” time that revives you. Whether it’s doing a few yoga poses in your hotel room and centering yourself or going for a long walk where you really spend time looking at the world around you, don’t use the time to think about work. Use it as a break from the usual go-go-go pace we’re all so used to!
3. Get new tunes! Whenever my runs or walks are getting stale, I know one thing that will always pick me up again: new, upbeat songs. Ask your friends or co-workers to swap workout playlists or even go online for some workout music suggestions. If you’re really sick of music, try going sans headphones for a workout. Listen to a podcast where you can learn something, or ask a coworker to work out with you and chat it up. Keeping it fresh is key!
4. Consider a break. Wanting to miss a workout isn’t always just mental. It can also be physical. When was the last time you took a break from working out? If you’ve been pushing your body hard for more than a month, don’t be afraid to take a few days off. The time away can rest your body and make you actually miss working out. Talk about rekindling that workout love flame!
5. Just do it. If you’re not in need of a physical break, try the above tips. If you are still having problems getting your workout mojo back, there’s one last thing you can do - push through it. Sometimes just doing it is enough to get those endorphins going and make you remember why you work out. So instead of dreading it, focus on how good you’ll feel after you’re done!
How do you bust out of a travel workout rut?

I have found that towel moves, under the SculptMoves program works best when travelling!

These seem like pretty generic tips for breaking out of a workout rut, but nothing to do with travel. A lot of these just aren’t applicable to business travelers. For example, I’ve never seen a workout class start earlier than 6:30am or later than 8pm, and those are the only times available for a workout if you’re traveling on business. The super early/super late timing also constrains your ability to do something outside (run, walk, etc), since it can be really dangerous to be a single woman out on your own at those hours.
I find it best to pre-load many workout DVDs onto my laptop, so I can do different routines all the time without having to lug around a lot of stuff. Usually this is only good for cardio, though, as there isn’t really a great way to do a strength training routine in your room other than just bodyweight (see here for details on how I’ve tried, though!)
Rather helpful thank you, I do think your trusty audience will probably want a great deal more writing similar to this continue the excellent work.
